Marc Behm has had a successful career as a film scriptwriter (his credits include Charade and Help) and as an author. He is in his seventies and lives in France. His other novels include the classic The Eye of the Beholder which is a literary siamese twin to Afraid to Death and which No Exit also publishes. |
READER REVIEWS Alejandro Romero <fcu89.ccs@sussex.co.uk> from Brighton, Sussex writes: "Afraid to Death" is, in a sense, an abstraction of the main Behm themes. Some ideas suggested here are later developed in a slightly lighter vein in "Seek to Know No More" and "Crab" (both starred by the Dark Angel Lucy, somehow a near relative of the Lady in "Afraid to Death"). It is also an abstraction of the archetypal horror story itself, and it proves one of Behm's bigger virtues: his honesty. No one can feel cheated when the story reaches its end, and still, it is full of twists and puzzling surprises. Few writers can move their characters with such an unexpected logic as Behm. Sincerely, I wish I could read more from him, but I pity the British readers who don't know about "The Queen of the Night" or "The Ice Maiden"... |
